Permanent Citizens Advisory Committee to the MTA
The Permanent Citizens Advisory Committee runs the New York City Transit Riders Council, the LIRR Commuters Council and the Metro North Commuter Council. The state-financed group acts as an independent voice for transit riders. A PCAC representative sits on the MTA board as a non-voting member.
Connecticut Metro-North Rail Commuter Council
Whether you commute by Metro-North between Connecticut and New York, or between cities and towns within Connecticut, the Commuter Council represents you. The Council was formed by the Connecticut State Legislature and its members are commuters. The Council acts as a consumer liaison between riders and the Connecticut Dept. of Transportation (CDOT), Metro-North, and Shore Line East railroads and advises the legislature regarding commuter issues.

Disabled in Action is a "civil rights organization committed to ending discrimination against people with disabilities—all disabilities. Founded in 1970, DIA is a democratic, not-for-profit, membership organization. DIA consists primarilty of and is directed by disabled people." DIA has long been active on making public and private transportation accessible to persons with disabilities.
USA is a non-profit organization dedicated to serving the needs of spinal cord injured/diseased veterans residing primarily in the New York, New Jersey, Eastern Pennsylvania and Connecticut. American Public Transportation Association
APTA is "an international organization that has been representing the transit industry since 1882. APTA members include bus, rapid transit and commuter rail systems, and the organizations responsible for planning, designing, constructing, financing and operating transit systems."
CommuterLink is a non-profit organization dedicated to working with employers to "promote and simplify the use of public transit and to assist in the formation of carpools and vanpools for their employees." They also offer the only public guaranteed ride home program in New York City. CommuterLink's goal is to reduce traffic congestion and advocate for and improve service.

Chicago Campaign For Better Transit
Chicago's Campaign for Better Transit (CBT) is a coalition of transit riders and citizens that "works for safe, accessible, efficient, affordable and pleasant transit service and the funding needed to achieve it."
The Bus Riders Union/Sindicato de Pasajeros, in Los Angeles "with 3,000 dues paying members and 50,000 self-identified supporters" fights "for a first-class, clean-fuel, bus-centered public transportation system in Los Angeles."
RESCUE Muni (Riders for an Efficient, Safe, Consistent, Utilized, and Expeditious Muni) is an "independent transit riders' association for San Francisco."
