Save the Fare. Think Hard. The New
York Times The M.T.A. giveth, then it taketh away. Now that a transit strike has been averted, the Metropolitan Transportation Authority plans to hold public hearings about a fare increase to pay for the wage increase. But what if riders hatch new ways for the M.T.A. to make or save money? Can they rescue themselves from a $1.75 (or even $2!) fare?
